MAIN LINE OF ACTIVITY
Minsk Gear Works is a specialized enterprise
for manufacture of gear-wheels. pinion-shafts and die forgings used for
the production of various types of tractors, engines and agricultural machines.
At the plant are also produced:
- metal powder items,
- specialized production equipment,
- consumer goods,
- agrucultural tools (ploughs of several modifications)
etc.

FOUNDATION, DEVELOPMENT AND PRESENT STATE OF THE ENTERPRISE
The construction of the plant started in June
1952. In January 1956 the First batch of spare parts for tractors was produced.
The specialization of the plant has remained
the same up to now.
Minsk Gear Works is situated in the south-east
part of Minsk (ca.2,5 km from the city centre). The territory of the plant
boarders on the main railway line Moscow - Brest, in the north it is contiguous
to Minsk Electrotechnical Kozlov Plant, in the east - to Dolgobrodskaya
Street.
Nowadays the construction and layout of the plant
are completed. The territory is fenced and well-arranged. There is a ramified
net of motor roads. The plant is connected with the railway net by means
of a railway siding linked with the station Stepyanka of the main railway
line Moscow - Brest.
There are 29 industrial buildings and 7 structures.
The overall floor space of the indusrial buildings and structures amounts
to 104,7 thousand square meters.

The industrial buildings and structures are in
satisfactory operating conditions.
The enterprise has at its disposal a stock of
necessary metal cutting equipment (mainly - specialized equipment), facilities
for chemical and heat treatment of produced items, a forgery,toolmaker's
shop, modern power-supply installations, a necessary pare of factory conveyance
equipment and motor transport of various carrying capacity.

Before 1992 the enterprise operated stable and
at full capacity meeting the requirements for components and spare parts
for tractors and other agricultural machinery throughout the former USSR.
After the disintegration of the Soviet Union
the production ties of the enterprise had been sustantially disrupted.
Due to the fact that agricultural enterprises practically in all GUS-countries
are short of financial means the demand for spare parts as well as for
tractors and agricultural machinery dropped considerably (the need is here
but no money for purchasing). This has brought about a reduction of the
production output at the plant. We have been unable so far to reach the
production and sales volumes of 1990-1991.

A major work has been accomplished to find new
customers for our technical products as well as for consumer goods. The
share of products sold on the market of our Republic has sustantially in
creased surpassing 70 % of the overall supplies.
During the last two years the plant drastically
increased export sales to the countries outside the GUS. So, in 1995 and
1996 the export compared to 1994 reached 277 % and 353 % .
