Released in the fall of 1995, The Pentium® Pro processor is designed to fuel server- and workstation-level applications, enabling fast computer-aided design, mechanical engineering and scientific applications. The Pentium Pro processor incorporates a second chip, a speed-enhancing cache memory chip, in the same package as the microprocessor. While the 4004 had 2,300 transistors, its powerful Pentium Pro processor descendant boasts 5.5 million transistors.
