The Government of the Republic of Belarus attaching great importance to the develop-ment of the telecommunication means and services, information and bank technologies has supported the initiative of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Minsk City Council to hold this exhibition and congress.

The subjects of the exhibition is due to the rows of the conditions specially vital for the Republic of Belarus.

Firstly, Belarus has got highly qualified scientific, technical and production potential in many branches, providing development of the information technologies. Telecommunication soft-and hardware, integral circuits. PCs. wide range of telecommunication equipment are manufactured in the Republic of Belarus. A number of big research and design institutes are specialized on elaborating telecommunication means soft-and hardware. Educational institutes of the republic train personnel for all directions necessary for these branches.

Secondly, structural reorganization of the economy of the republic and overcoming of crisis can not be accomplished without high level informatization of all spheres of the society and entering into world communication and information exchange networks. At present time a number of ministries and departments began to develop sectoral information systems. National Bank is working on creation of the national payment system.

Thirdly, geographical location of the Republic of Belarus favours to use its territory not only for international transport streams but for information streams as well. For the present moment the building up of fiber-optical main line Minsk-Brest-stateborder with the exit to Transeuropean line through Warsaw-Frankfurt and Minsk-Gomel with the direction to Kiev with exit to the South of Europe and Turkey through Odessa-Palermo has been completed.

The Organizing Committee puts the following goals:

- to reflect modern status and perspectives of the development of communication sys-tems and services in the Republic of Belarus:

- to analyse both problems of information supply and activities of expert and analytical services in economical, scientific, technical and social, political spheres and systems of infor-mation support of administrative solutions;

- to present the newest soft-and hardware for the development of different level infor-mation systems from a separate enterprise to the branch and the republic in the whole;

- to present the latest achievements in the field of information and bank technologies, office systems:

- to analyse the state, problems and perspectives of informatization of main branches of the economy, arrange exchange of experience among the specialists, provide inculcation of modern information technologies:

- to present the newest domestic elaborations in this sphere, provide for the Belarusian enterprises-manufactures the opportunity of direct contact with the representatives of the leading world firms, acquaintance with the newest chievements in their branch, comparison of their products with the world standards.

Development of the national industry is directly connected with the mastering of new types of products, increasing its technical and scientific level, attracting newest technologies and the equipment, setting up new scientific, technical and production ties.

I am sure that the present exhibition and the congress will positively influence the state of informatization of the Belarusian society in the whole, contribute to the development of own industry, communication means and systems, computer technics, strengthening international cooperation in information sphere.
