The principle direction of researches is the development of efficient, economical and ecologically clean methods for hardening machine parts and tools made of steels and alloys by heat treatment, thermochemical treatment and low-temperature case hardening.
The examined problems may be subdivided into four groups:
1. Development of new methods and technologies for heat treatment of cutting tools made of high-speed steels. The elaborated methods permit increasing impact strength by the factor of 1.5-2, bending strength by 10-20%, wear resistance by the factor of 1.5-6 and do not require additional equipment, materials and personnel.
2. Working out new methods of heat treatment for cutting, stamp and structural steels. The developed methods yield a 10-40% increase in bending strength and a 2 to 15-fold increase in impact strength retaining the as-quenched hardness of a steel. The service life of cutting and stamp tools and machine parts increases by the factor of 2-10. No additional equipment, materials and personnel is needed.
3. Development of case hardening methods for steels, cast irons and hard alloys by thermochemical treatment. Multi-component carbide coatings with 20-140 um thickness and Hµ 28,000-32,000 MPa are obtained. They increase the wear resistance by the factor of 2-5 for dies, 2-20 for hard alloy cutting tools.
4. Working out low-temperature surface hardening method for cutting tools and stamps. Boiling in aqueous suspensions produces 5-10 um thick coatings with special properties which increase the service life of cutting tools made of high-speed steels and hard alloys by the factor of 1.5-4, and stamps and dies by the factor of 1.5-2.
The above processes have been used by more than 20 industrial enterprises in Belarus and Russia, and have been successfully tested in Germany, China and Czech Republic.
- Heat treatment process for tools made of high-speed steels.
- Process for producing multicomponent carbide coating.
- Deposition of wear-resistant film coating of tools.
- Process for producing dense articles from silicon carbide.
- Heat treatment process for structural and tool steels.
- Activation of solution.
