The real present for inhabitants of Minsk who speak German or as yet study it, has been the foundation of German cultural central library Gette by name in Minsk. It is placed at the literary Man Centre ( Phrunze Str.,5).
The first visitors were received by the library last year summer, and now services of interlibrary loan system are being used by about four hundreds of readers from children to pensioners. But usually student and pupils come here. A lot of people study at a reading-room.
About four thousand publications in German are in the stock of the library. There are both bright and beautiful books for the smallest children with pictures and volumes in philosophy, psychology, economics, politics, law, architecture, history, geography. There are also materials for amateurs of music, movie, theatre, literature.
There is particularly a great demant for literature in social problems, education, law, economics,-says the chief of the library Kerstin Vezendorph, came from Berlin to work in Minsk.-Students of law and economics faculties, teachers, interested in the system of education in Germany often appeal to us.
With interest visitors communicate to Kepstin, because many people studying German don't often have opportunity touse the language in practice. Any person can join the library and have tree use of its stock.
Encyclopaediars, art albums, some other publications are marked with a red label. It means such books can't be borrowed, but the rest, that is the majority, can be borrowed. Besides there are compact discs, audio- -cassetes with records in German, for example, radio-plays, fiction...And with the help of video-records one can watch fiction movies, plays right at the library. Video-cassetes with information about Berlin, Leypzching, Drezden and other cities of Germany enjoy wide popularity. People who can't speak the language come to the library to watch them, for example, on the eve of forthcoming trips there. Or those who sheer like travelling very much.
There aredifferent German newspapers and magazines on the sepoarate shelves. The Library is a mediator of the establishment of contacts with libraries of Germany and a pather of numerous Belarusian libraries. Kerstin Vezendorph and her colleague Iulia Knysh not only advise visitors to choose books but also willingly help those who want to know adresses, phone numbers of funds, communities and different organizations, placed in Germany.
