Incidents

1. He fell from a bad and perished in fire 21.02.97

A three room apartment in Bogdanovich street was nearly burnt down to ashes by an addict. At night on the 21st of February his room was entirely burnt down, the other two rooms were strongly sooted. Fortunately, nobody of those leaving in the apartment was injured.

On the 20th of February around 7p.m. in Tirazhnaya street a retired man being blind drunk fell from his bed just onto a switched on home-made electric heater. His neighbours called for a fire-brigade but unfortunately they didn’t manage to save the man. He died in two days.

Last week there were 49 fires in the city with almost all of them in the residential area.

2. Under debris

On the 24th of February a tragedy took place in the village of Novy Dvor that is not far from Minsk. A 24-meter tube of a boiler-house crashed and crushed down four workers.

As usually in such cases people from a rescue service rushed to help them. They were lead by Anatoly Guriev, a Chief of the Militarized Fire Service Head Administration and Anatoly Kolbaskin, a Chief of the Republican Special Detachment. Two people were got out alive from under a five-meter thick layer of broken brick. They are A.Kharitonchik and G.Tur, born in 1954 and 1956 respectively. They didn’t manage to save 45 years old E.Fedoseev and 60 years old Yukhnevich.

Kharitonchik and Tur are now at the reanimation devision of a hospital. They communicate with each other. It seems their lives are out of danger.

The tube that killed two people was being built during several years. After having constructed 5-10 meters of the tube they used to stop and conserve the construction work. Finally they desided to dismantle it at all. The four workers mentioned above were just those persons who were to do this. To solve the problem they desided to drive in wooden wedges and then set them on fire. It’s regrettable, but their solution was unsuccessfull.
