The bureau of the European Council came to the decision on the temporary halt of the status of Belarus as a specially invited on session of Parlamentary Assembly of this organization. According to foreign press reports, this decision was motivated by the fact that the present byelorussian parlament was not considered by EC Bureau to be the parlament which had sufficient democratic legitimity.

"Having no possibility to enter the relations with the present byelorussian parlament nominated by President Alexander Lukashenko, - the chairwomen of PAEC Lanee Fischer has declared, - at the same time this organization has preferred to not deprive Belarus of the status of a specially invited, and only temporarily stopped its action. It will allow to keep contacts and to support any positive evolution in this country "

The question on the future of Belarus status in European Council will become one of central in the agenda on the session of PAEC which is going to be held at the end of January in Strasbourg.
