President of Belarus, A.Lukashenko, on 22.01.97. met with public figures and businessmen from the USA.

The press service of the president informed of the Lukashenko`s meeting at his official residence with the representatives from Mid-American Committee, famous public figures and businessmen Thomas Miner, Ron Elliote, Ron Willing and Nick Pankrats.

The Belarussian side was presented by Michael Marinitch, the Minister of international economic relations, and Vladimir Gontcharenko, the Minister of communication.

Mid-American Committee is concerned with international business, acts as a mediator between heads of states, big international corporations and headquarters located in the middle West of the USA.

President Lukashenko highlightened political and economic situation in Belarus, pinpointing the guests` attention on results and challenges of economic reforms in the republic.

During the meeting the parties discussed problems concerning American investments into Belarussian enterprises. They also discussed the issue of economic and political relations and agreed about the importance of strengthening their cooperation to the advantage of their states.
