"The Central post office and the station will be blown up." (24.01.97.)

The telephone threats caused troubles to the Minsk police officers, engineers, firemen and KGB agents.

At 11.45 a.m. municipal department for internal affairs was informed about an anonymous call to the Central post office notifying of a bomb in it. As the BelTA correspondent was told by the UVD (Department for Internal Affairs) press service, the police officers, firemen and engineers were promtly assambled around the post building. The post office was closed and checked by the engineers. Thy did not find anything and the Central post office carried on operating.

A similar case came around on the 22 of January when the transite passangers were rapidly evacuated from the Minsk railway station.

The reason was an anonymous call informing about undermined station building and the time of explosion.

To secure the passangers some measures were carried out by the UVD mobile forces, engineers and fire service. Explosive stuff was not found, so at 4 p.m. the Central post office and the railway station went on working. Investigation agencies are tracking the anonymous "joke-makers". The police is going to find out what it was- either misdeeds of hooligans or an elaborated provocation aimed at destabilization of the society and creating unrest in the republic.

The last version is the most likely for the terrorists are focused on the arears with a dense concentration of people.

These provacations make a great stress for people and involve high expenses.

The press service of the Domestic Ministry of Belarus.
Yesterday at the same time (11.40 a.m.) the anonymous bomber reminded of himself again. He told that the railway station had been undermined. Enforcement agencies took all necessary security measures to be on the safe side. A deserted terminal was cordoned off by the troops and checked all over on suspicion of a bomb.
Victor Phedorovich.
