For example, the GNP has increased by 2.6%, the idustrialproduction has increased by 3.2%. Only 28% of interprises have notyet managed to do away with the lag. The agricultural production hasincreased in camparable prices by 2.4%. This data was presented onthe governmental press-conference by Peter Prokopovich the First Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus. According to his words, the most evident results can be seen in the metallurgy, chemical and petrochemical industries, in machine-building, metal fabricating, construction materials production, forestry, woodworking, pulp and paper industries, in light and food processing industry.

Only for the past month the stock of finished goods has reduced by 5.5%. As on January 1 it ammounted to 9.5 milliard rubles. It looks like more optimal index.

In view of the First Deputy Prime Minister it is too early to reap the laurels. There are still too many negative features in the country`s economy. Its effectiveness is still low. There are still insufficient curent assets on many interprises and the problem of non-payments remains acute. Although there is an increase in foreign trade, the negative balance reached almost USD 1.4 bln. The investments reduced by 10%. There is a lot to be done to stabilize the situation on the currency market.

Undoubtedly, we have to work hard this year in order to solve these problems, noted Peter Prokopovich. According to Basic Priorities of Socio-Economic Development, the GNP is to be icreased by 5%. The industry production is planned to be increased by 6%. Approximately the same increase is planned for the real incomes of population.
