SEPTEMBER 1997

Explosive for Justice. (September 11, 1997)

Yesterday morning the rumour that a court building was explored in Logoisky Trackt St. has rushed through Minsk. At 9.30 a correspondent of "Vecherny Minsk" arrived at the accident place. There are court buildings here: Soviet District Court, Minsk Regional Court and the Court of Zaslavl.

Indeed, it was impossible to come by the building from outside - the police was working… And there were no inquisitive people around. In the building itself as it was accepted people were in an agony of quiet suspense. However the ground floor room officials did not let outsiders to come in but were not in a hurry (there was not given a command) to gather window-pane fragments from window-sills.

At about 11 o'clock at last there came a possibility to take a picture of the explosion place. It has turned out that the explosion blazed up on the ground floor under a room #1 belonged to Minsk District Court. Red bricks from a thick wall went like a shot from a gun to the street. And it appeared a window-pane on the forth floor of 9th floor block-house taken up opposite position 20 meters far was knocked out of a fragment.

It is being said that Regional Court is moving. And there are no safes with securities at all in the room #1. Two overturned chairs were seen through a yawning hole from the street… And Soviet District Court's lawyers as always sit over the explored room. Was "a signal" sent to them? Nobody knows. This court was not running infamous actions during last period of time. An ordinary criminal affair should have been considered at the explosion day…

Meanwhile the building was quickly restored. Window-frames were being fitted with glass. Soon white bricks were delivered to block up the hole.

It has been clear that the explosive happened at 5.55 in the morning. Windowpanes of some 9th floor house flats flied out. Being in shock people rushed to windows and saw a cloud of white smoke. At the moment they called to the police… By prior information there were put over 400 grams of explosive. And that is not few! There was brought an action with cl. 96 p.2? premeditated damage of property by a publicly dangerous way…
