What do school children know about human rights?

The library of HUMAN RIGHTS Minsk Education Centre has opened for the public use in the building of 177 secondary school. There are methodical and reference books for teachers there to help them prepare the lessons on human rights. This library is the first of its kind in Belarus so far. It is working on every Tuesday and Friday from 15.00 to 19.00 and on the Saturdays from 12.00 to 17.00 hours.

By the way, there was made the Competition among the schools of whole republic on the knowledge of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The results of this intellectual competition between 5 to 11 year of education school children have been summed up recently in the Belarus United Nations Organization Representative Centre. The competition was sponsored by LUFTHANSA Company and MERLINTUR Tour Agency. The children have got books, photography cameras and films as prizes.

There is Minsk boy among the winners, Pavel Rakhmanov who is at the 10th year of education in the 15th school in Minsk. There was made a fast competition between the winners to determine two most competent ones. Dmitry Gurnevich from the Stolbtsy District and Alexander Zanko from the Kletsk City have won the tours to Geneva. They will meet Mary Robinson who is the Chief Commissar of the UN Organization's Permanent Commission on Human Rights, and will see many places of interest there.
