| Attorneys are to be more careful with the Constitution.
The Constitutional Court of the Republic Belarus,
headed by Grigoriy Vasilevitch, ratified a letter on constitutional legality in Belarus.
It was addressed to the upper and lower parliament chambers and also to the president. In the letter there is an analysis of citizens’ appeals to the Constitutional Court. In 1998 there were 800 appeals. Most letters cover wider than personal interests and make the foundation for conclusions on degree of legal defense. Among the most acute problems are privileges for some categories of war veterans. One more problem is compensation for losses of deposits devaluation and state failure in paying ex-USSR obligations. The letter also states that a lot of acts of municipal soviets need checking on the subject of constitutional compliance. The citizens activities helped the Constitutional Court a lot. Though there’s an article in the Constitution that obliges judges to inform about every non-constitutional law. Unfortunately, there was not a single turning. Our newspaper «Vetcherny Minsk» decided to reward the first attorney whose solicitation about complying with the Constitution will be found right.
