BLOBs (Binary Large OBjects) are elements of database meant for storing large dynamically changing data amounts. Contrary to note fields in which the same can be saved, LeoBase provides a mechanism of modifying just a part of the BLOB. If the note field is used for saving the same data, then changing just one byte of the field is saved in the database as a whole. In information search systems with replenished database it leads to increasing the size of LeoBase upgrade files. Besides, resaving large amounts of data lowers the working speed of the system. BLOBs allow to solve the problems: to optimize the upgrade file size and to increase efficiency of the system.
But the most interesting quality of BLOBs is addressing the inserted data. There are two kinds of addressing BLOB data: physical (byte number) and logical (record of certain type). During insertion of new data or removing the old ones from BLOB the logical location of remaining data isn't changed. For instance, this allows to keep texts in a BLOB and to index its words by logical location. Then there's no need to change completely indices at changing the text. In the result, besides simple BLOBs, the indexed ones are supported in LeoBase.
BLOBs can be separated from LeoBase.
